House 02 was designed twice — once for summer and once for winter — and built once. The courtyard is the hinge. In summer it is the largest room in the house and has no ceiling; in winter it fills with snow and becomes a window that the whole plan looks into.

Most houses treat weather as something to be excluded. This one treats it as a tenant. The glazing that opens the interior to the courtyard is doing opposite work in each season: dissolving the boundary in July, framing it in January, and never being asked to pretend the difference away.

The result is a house with two personalities and one plan. Nothing reconfigures, nothing folds away, no mechanism adapts it. The building simply holds still and lets the year move through it — which is, in the end, the only honest way to build for a climate that changes.
