Phenom

A corridor is usually the part of a plan that is left over. Phenom treats it as the destination. The passage narrows, the stone closes in on both sides, and the ceiling drops before releasing into light — a sequence engineered entirely around what the body does under compression.

The effect depends on withholding. If the far room were visible from the entrance the walk would be mere circulation, a distance to be covered. Because the opening is offset, the light arrives before the space does, and the corridor is experienced as a promise rather than a delay.

Marble was chosen for its indifference. It records nothing, ages slowly, and returns light without warmth. In a passage designed around a sensation, the material has to stay silent — anything more expressive would compete with the thing the architecture is actually delivering.
