Essay
Reqan is a horizontal line drawn against a vertical landscape. The mountains behind it rise; the building refuses to. A single concrete band holds the ground plane and everything above it is left to the hill, which was there first and will outlast the work.
The decision not to compete is the entire design. A building placed in a landscape of this scale has two available strategies — answer it or defer to it — and the second is far more difficult, because it requires giving up the gesture that would make the building photograph well alone.
The wild grass is not landscaping. It was left because a mown edge would have announced where the architecture ended and the site began. The line between them is deliberately unresolved: the house does not sit on the land so much as it stops, and lets the land continue.
